——What do I do to join Roller Derby???—–
**In order to play you have to take and pass the Derby 101 course.
We are starting Derby 101 September 18, 2019.

—–What exactly is Derby 101??—–

Derby 101 is designed for all levels of skaters, from non-skaters to experienced skaters. In the Derby 101 training course you will learn how to skate, how to use proper techniques for stopping and starting, falls and slides, crossovers, various dry land training techniques, one footed skating and much more including basic blocking and hitting techniques. This course is fun and challenging for all levels of skaters and is designed to teach you the basics of derby and help you stay safe.

We also encourage anyone who wants to referee to participate in this course. Refs only pay insurance fee.

—–What do I need to get started??—–
For Registration you will need:
*$30 for the mandatory Skaters insurance + $70 for the course = ($100 total)
*Your Health Card.

For Derby 101 you will need the following gear:
*Quad Skates (preferably “speed style” roller skates) (we have some skates to loan out as well!!)
*Mouth Guard
*Wrist Guards
*Elbow Pads
*Knee Pads

—–Where can I get skates??—–
Costs can range from $150 to over $500 for gear. You can buy packages that set you up with everything you will need. There are even Beginner packages available that are affordable. With all things though, you will get what you pay for when it comes to quality of gear and skates.

Many roller derby stores offer online sales, however, it is recommended that you get a proper fitting the first time you are purchasing a pair of skates for roller derby.
