Abbeyfield Senior Housing in Durham opened in December 2002. It is a not-for-profit option for seniors. The residents have their own living area. They have the support of a house manager who takes care of the building and is in charge of cooking the meals.
There is a warm, family feel to the house. Seniors here can have the privacy of their own rooms or get together in the main area for companionship and conversation. There is the secure feeling of knowing that there are others near by and yet being independent. Abbeyfield offers a special caring element provided by dedicated volunteers with the balance of a single House manager.
When considering the move to senior housing, some facts need to be examined. A few of those facts being the age, the level of health, and, of course, being able to get along with the other people living there.
Abbeyfield Durham is a non profit charitable organization. It is managed by local volunteers through a Board of Directors.
We are part of a group of Abbeyfield Houses Societies around the world as a member of Abbeyfield Canada and Abbeyfield International.
