To opt in or opt out?

“To opt in or opt out?” That is the question in West Grey survey launched today. WEST GREY, Ontario – Like municipalities across Ontario, West Grey will be considering whether or not to permit retail cannabis locations in the municipality. A survey has been launched to gather input from the West Grey community.

In addition to the survey, members of the public will have the opportunity to participate in a public forum on January 8, 2019 beginning at 10:15 a.m., during the regular meeting of Council. At this forum, Council will host an “open-mic” to provide another channel to offer input.

“Fundamental to this Council is public consultation and the opportunity for the community to participate in the process of reaching decisions,” said West Grey Mayor Christine Robinson. “I fully anticipate we will receive, and hear, varying viewpoints on the matter of retail locations in West Grey. It’s that healthy dialogue that will assist Council in determining the direction West Grey will take on this matter.”

The survey can be found on the municipal website at www.westgrey.com. Hard copies are also available at the municipal office and branches of the West Grey library. The survey closes January 2, 2019. Staff will report findings for council deliberation on January 8, 2019. The province has stated that municipalities who do not opt out by January 22, 2019 are automatically deemed as opting in to allow retail locations in their community.
